    You probably read the story, "Casey at Bat". Got the point of the story, at least, while not memorizing the entire story word for word. The point is that even when you happen to be the absolute top man at your craft, it doesn't pay to be smug. You know, Murphy's Law and stuff like that.

    I didn't memorize it all word for word because every time the name, "Mighty Casey" came up, I couldn't get this stupid commercial jingle out of my head. Yes, I saw the commercial about five years before reading the story.

    Tangent response. Not even sure how much that toy had cost, since the ad doesn't mention it and was aired more than forty years ago. The OP was not about the toy.
