ESports aren't sports, and ESports players aren't athletes

An athlete is someone who does something athletic, I.e. requiring physical exertion to complete. Nerds playing a game while munching on Cheetos do not exert any physical energy. Therefore, they are not athletes. Most could barely run a 20 minute mile.

Think of the physical training the human body needs to go at the speeds of an Usain Bolt. The flexibility of a gymnast. The sheer power of Olympic lifting. Olympic Boxing might not suck this year but think of the speed and power required for that.

Now think of an ESports player trying to take out the garbage for their mother.

It's mental exertion, more akin to Chess than basketball

What the hell is that behind you

You say that as if athletes are respected. Only by the brainwashed masses who idolize empty grunts. For the sophisticated lot of us athletes "don't impress us much" as Shania Twain put it.

What is impressive is the amount of focus, strategy, and mental fortitude it takes to win a Street Fighter V video game competition when you're pitted against the world's best players.

No one said E-sports players are athletes. Stop making up arguments just to argue.

You know nothing on this matter probably. Ive played ice hockey for 15 or so years now and have been on the same team for 4. Ive played halo 2 professionally at one point as well. You are wrong and the amount of daily practice and training you do as a pro gamer is more than certain physical atheletes do at times.

Also, chess has been considered a sport for the longest time. It's probably one of the least physically intensive games out there. Go ahead and keep whining but it won't change the fact that E-sports are sports.

They are not sports because they require no athleticism.

lol like i said in another thread, sports and athletics are not interdependent.

Solecisms notwithstanding, you are correct to assert that professional gaming takes more skill and effort than sports do for certain athletes.

However, the issue with your hockey (hockey, not ice hockey. We know it's played on ice and the NHL isn't called the NIHL) anecdote is that you are comparing professional sports and professional gaming without having played a sport professionally. You claim to have been a professional Halo 2 player and, if that's true, your experience would have to be compared to a professional sports experience of yours in order to make this argument viable.

im guessing no, and that all of this angst is due to some kind of ineptitude at gaming
