Hulu Ends Free Streaming Service, Anime Booted to "Yahoo View"

Who knows how shitty this Yahoo View thing will be, given it is run by Yahoo. I don't get why the free stuff has to be kept separate, though. Why did they bury it on their own page and why aren't they keeping it now?

On the one hand, fans should be able to keep watching their free stuff, but given it is switching services, to one run by Yahoo of all people, this could really jeapordize the viewership for some shows and people might miss out on their shows.

I think the shows would be better off staying on Hulu. Netflix is widespread and people don't have a problem paying for that. Hulu costs about the same.

This might be a boon for Toonami though, if some shows' availability is loosened up.

They literally use the Hulu player for Yahoo View so no worries there. They'll have apps eventually but the current navigation leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm pretty sure Hulu will still offer anime to subscribers but they may offer a lot less eventually.

Why they won't simply keep the free access on their own site is baffling especially since it's all still hosted there for now.

Hulu/Yahoo View may no longer have some exclusive contracts for anime in the near future but there's really no telling.

At first I was offended that Hulu was giving up, but then I remembered how even so much as scrolling on it crashed Firefox, so I'm kinda glad it's over and done with.

But now I'm annoyed that Yahoo View apparently doesn't have either Oreimo or Initial D.

Also, there's already a thread about this, way to be a copycat Ben.

Meh, Crunchyroll has GTO, subbed and the first 14 of the dub. That's fine with me.

Does this mean you'll have to switch to Crunchyroll to make ratings screencaps? Or do you already have a DVD of it?

    I have reached acceptance.

Also, clicking on the first article just takes me to the Facebook page of the guy who wrote it.

I really don't see the difference, the buffering and commercials have always been utterly unbearable.

    Oh...

And the Universe said, "Let there be Zeni's YouTube Channel". And so it was. And it was good.

I never used Hulu so I'm not really distraught, though admittedly the lack of a free service is going to suck a bit.

The main thing I used Hulu for was watching the subbed episodes of certain shows as they were released by Sentai, it's where I watch the first season of Food Wars. Also where I watched the dubbed episodes of Accel World, Blood Lad, and Tiger and Bunny.

That's weird. I went on the site and searched and ended up with the same url. Looks like it should open if you right click->open in new tab.

Oh really? That's not too bad then. Navigation is bad? Uh I don't think we want to see what the Yahoo app looks like.

We'll have to check on there and see what the lineup is.

Yeah I don't get that. Why is the free stuff considered separate and has to go? Shouldn't they want as much content as possible to attract subscibers?

Hmm, I see. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

That's your fault for not switching to Chrome. Likely some machine and Internet issues as well, so don't blame Hulu for that.

So it's not a straight transfer then? Not everything is being carried over? That's not good.

Are you talking about your thread where this topic wasn't the title and was just one of several things discussed? That doesn't count as a repeat thread.

Doesn't buffer for me. Must be your machine or connection.

I used Chrome regularly back in the day, but I had constant trouble with it so I switched to Firefox and haven't looked back (yet).

Trust me, I'll find a way.

Must be on your end. Everybody knows that Firefox got bloated and buggy and that Chrome is the lean, safe browser you want to use. Don't get me wrong, Firefox used to be great, but those days are long past. Too many fingers in the pie.

I don't know what you're talking about, Chrome is nothing but trouble. It crashes my computer every time I open it, and I've never used it for anything other than Internet Archive.

You have a shitty computer or connection then. Don't blame Chrome for your noobery.

I have a shitty connection = Chrome crashes computer. Tell, how did you arrive at that logic?

I believe I also said you have a shitty computer. So it's probably that. Honestly this is the first I've heard of Chrome crashing anybody's computer. You must be using Netscape and Dogpile, since it's probably all you could run on your Windows 95.
